Dear Santa….

Dear Santa,

I know I’m a little old to be writing you, but I am one of your most loyal Christmas supporters!  I decorate the tree with the upmost care; hanging each ornament with love and affection. Remembering stories behind each trinket, with kind thoughts of the gifter.   Christmas is, after all a time to share memories, to aspire hopes and dreams that anything is possible.

This year, as I reflect on the past few years, I would like to ask for more love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  I would like this packaged up in a nice box with red shiny paper with a glimmering silver bow that twinkles in the light.  I would keep the box on the end table with the lid set a jar, so that I would be able to open the box at a moments notice, and pull out some kindness, or perhaps, some gentleness and patience.

Dear Santa sir, by any chance,do you have deep down in your bag, enough of this treasure to share all over the world? What if, instead of giving gifts of selfishness, rudeness and disrespect, we handed out the true treasures in life?

In 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 it describes love. “ Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trust, always hopes, always perseveres. “

I’m sorry Santa, but I don’t think you will be able to fulfill my Christmas wish.  Don’t get me wrong, I still beam with excitement as we drive through neighborhoods with lights shining and shouting Merry Christmas!  I get a child like thrill run through my body as I hang the stockings on the fireplace with care.  The mystery of how you could possibly travel all over the world on one snowy night will always be just that, a mystery.

Thank you Santa for the fun and excitement of the possibility of you. But, as a grown up, I realize everything I ask for this Christmas comes from the Greatest Gift Giver ever. My heavenly Father sent his son as a gift to us all. Jesus.

Matthew 22: 37Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Love God, Love People.  This will make a Very Merry Christmas possible.

Merry Christmas to All !

Love,

Suzanne
